The World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday 7 March from 3-4.30 pm at Beckenham Baptist Church. Men and women from every church in Beckenham are invited to celebrate this annual service, which this year has been written by the Christian women of the Cook Islands.
Tea, coffee and cakes will be served after the service.
Cook Islanders have celebrated 200 years of Christianity in the group of 15 islands spread over almost 800,000 square miles in the Pacific Ocean. Their first World Day of Prayer service was held on the island of Rarotonga in 1971. This year’s readings, based on the words of Psalm 139, are inspired by the women of the islands, who share stories of their struggle during Covid-19, a devaluing of their culture and their perseverance, faith and dedication to bringing improvements in obstetric health care.
Please join us in celebrating this wonderful wave of prayer that encircles the globe, praying with and for the Cook Islands and its people. It is quite special to be part of something so huge, and to enjoy meeting people from many other churches afterwards.
