Feast Day of Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest

Yesterday, and I am sorry I didn’t post a separate entry about the scripture readings, we broadened our coverage in the first readings at weekday Mass of the later parts of the New Testament, after only two readings from 2 Peter, to the Second Letter to Timothy. I will share more about this tomorrow because today in this country we have different readings for the new Feast Day of Jesus Christ, the Eternal High Priest – it’s only two years old so it won’t be in your missals – the full texts and readings for today can be found on the liturgy section of the Bishops Conference website: http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Calend…/Sanctoral/May.shtml…

We quite often hear readings from the letter to the Hebrews. In this letter, and we have no idea who wrote it, and here Jesus is presented as the new High Priest, renewing and completing in his sacrifice on the Cross the traditional worship of the Temple in Jerusalem. This feast day, focuses on Jesus as priest in the Eucharist, our central act of worship, and also enables us today to pray for priests who share in a particular way in his ministry, and for vocations to the priesthood.

God bless and take care
