This Sunday we celebrate the solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. Every Mass is a memorial of Jesus’ death and resurrection, the sacrament of love and mercy, a sign of unity and a Paschal banquet. It is the unity aspect I wish to emphasise to you all and in particular the children who are making their First Holy Communion on 9th and 16th this month.
In the Catechism of the Catholic Church (click to read) we are told that ‘the principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist in Holy Communion is an intimate union with Christ Jesus (CCC 1391). We know this to be true as Jesus said, “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him” (John 6:56). So with this very much in mind can I ask all the children who are making their First Holy Communion to pray as often as they can that they will come to Mass every Sunday to receive Jesus. The more we receive him the closer we are drawn into his love.
Thank you to the parents and catechists for all your support and hard work.
