When someone we love dies, it’s natural to want to talk about them — to share memories of them, express our feelings, and reflect on our loss. Many of us find comfort in family and friends, but sometimes those around us may not fully understand what we’re going through.
The St Edmund’s Bereavement Support Group offers a kind, safe, and understanding space for anyone who is grieving. In a warm and welcoming environment, parishioners can meet others who have also experienced loss, share their thoughts and feelings, and talk about the practical challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. There is no pressure to speak — simply being among others who understand can bring comfort and reassurance. For those who wish to share, there is always a listening ear. This supportive group is open to all, regardless of faith. We run three groups a year, meeting once a week for six weeks.
A lovely quality of this group is the genuine friendship and mutual support that often grows among those who come together through shared loss.
The parish also offers other ways to remember loved ones:
- The Memorial Board, located at the back of the church is a place where you may display a photo or Order of Service. These will remain there for twelve months as a visible tribute.
- The Anniversary Book also located at the back of the church, allows you to record the names of loved ones to be remembered. Please ask the Parish Office to do this.
- Each week, an Anniversary List is published in the Newsletter so that the whole parish community can remember them in their prayers.
Each November, we hold a Requiem Mass dedicated to all bereaved relatives and friends. If you would like your loved one’s name included, please contact the Parish Office prior to the Mass. This Mass is a calm, prayerful time of reflection and remembrance, followed by refreshments in the Hall where all are welcome.
If you would like to know more about St Edmund’s Bereavement Support, please take one of our leaflets from the shelf near the Anniversary Book at the back of the Church. You can also email us.
