As Catholics, we are called to take our responsibilities as citizens and voters seriously, with Gospel values informing how we look at the world, putting the common good before self-interest. Our Catholic bishops have been quick off the mark in providing resources to help us reflect on some key election issues from a Catholic perspective, on their “General Election 2024” webpage.
They remind us that “we are not merely the passive recipients of politics, but active citizens. An election is the best time for us as Christians to speak out, to get involved, and to lead”.
The topics include criminal justice, family life and domestic poverty, education, the environment, life issues, migration, human rights and peacebuilding.
