The Common Good and the Catholic Church’s Social Teaching 25 Years On

Some of you may remember when the Bishops Conference teaching document ‘The Common Good’ came out in late 1996, in the months before the May 1997 General Election. We had a whole course of talks on it in the parish during Lent 1997. At St Mary’s University we are organising this study day in January to mark the 25th anniversary. At the moment we are hoping it will be both physical and online, but of course may only be the latter by then. One of the speakers, the journalist Clifford Longley, an Orpington parishioner, who was involved in drafting the original document, was one of the speakers in our Lent course back then.

You would all be most welcome to sign up for the day.

God bless

Fr Ashley
