Today is the feast day of St John Fisher and St Thomas More. It has an important history in this diocese: in the 20s and 30s the Southwark diocese played a big part in the fund-raising for the canonisation process, because St John Fisher’s diocese (Rochester) is within the territory of the Catholic diocese of Southwark – and there are many parishes and schools dedicated to both saints (including John Fisher School in Purley which a number of boys from our parish attend). There are statues of the two saints in the dining room of Bishop Challoner school.
