As part of the Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) programme for 2020, we will be putting on a brand new and original musical! ‘The Crusader’ is about a young knight, William, who, upon his return from the Third Crusade with King Richard the Lionheart, is delayed on his journey and presumed to be dead, yet survives to undergo a conversion of heart leading him to turn away from the path of violence and warfare. When William eventually returns home he must find his place in the fight of his people against a corrupt baron and his oppressive regime. There are many characters, sub-plots, fun-filled drama and action in this project that has strong themes of faith and forgiveness, and tackles the question: ‘how do we effectively fight injustice?’
Although ideally suited to Years 9, 10 and 11, we encourage all young people and members of the deanery community with a passion for music, acting, singing and stage production to get involved in this exciting enterprise which we hope to perform in mid-late Spring. We will be holding auditions for actors/singers and musicians to be part of the orchestra on Saturday 15th and Saturday 22nd February from 12-2pm at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Plaistow Lane, Bromley. For more information, please contact Joseph Gulliford (seminarian at St Edmund’s and the writer) or Susan Longhurst (Deanery Youth Coordinator).
We know that St Edmund’s has many musically talented young people. Joseph Gulliford, who wrote this musical is living and working with us at St Edmund’s this year. It would be great it we could get behind him and make this production a huge success.
