First Holy Communion

This Saturday the last four out of a group of 110 children made their first holy communion. This brings to an end two months of weekend Masses when these young people were finally able to receive the Eucharist and means that all children who were unable to make their first communion due to lockdown have finally done so.

It has been a huge effort to organise this for two year groups of children from both our Catechism Group and St Mary’s.

Many thanks to our catechists for completing the sacramental preparation of the children. Thank you also to all their parents who accepted that for their child there would not be the usual special first communion Mass and breakfast afterwards.

Thanks as ever to our stewards who assisted in seating the families and their relations and friends who were un-familiar with our church and the protocols we are following.

A heartfelt thanks is owed to Christina Carr who led the preparation of all the St Mary’s children. Christina has led the sacramental preparation of St Edmund’s children who attend St Mary’s for a long time, and she has also led the Family Mass group for many years. Christina and her family are moving away from Beckenham and we wish them all the very best for their future.
