Today is the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time and Home Mission Sunday. The gospel (Matthew 20:1-16) is the parable of the workers in the vineyard. This speaks to us above all of God’s generous love, set in contrast to the envious grumbling of the workers who have been working all day long.
During this week there will be Funeral Masses (on Wednesday and Thursday respectively) of two longstanding members of our parish, Mary Smith and Peter May. As numbers at funerals even in church are restricted to 30 few will be able to be there, but they will be broadcast and recorded on livestream. Mary was the wife of the late Terry Smith and worked for some years as Justice and Peace Co-ordinator for our diocese; Peter was for many years a teacher at Bishop Challoner School. May they rest in peace.
