Feast of St Bartholomew the Apostle

Today is the feast of St Bartholomew the Apostle. Tradition has it that he was martyred by being flayed alive in India. One of the oldest hospitals in England is dedicated to him so it’s a good day to pray for the patients and staff there.

It is also the grim anniversary of the infamous massacre of hundreds of Protestants in France in the year 1572, captured vividly in the film ‘La Reine Margot’; so a day of penitence and self-reflection for Catholics.

God bless and take care
