This Monday, 11th February, is the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was on this day in 1858 that the Blessed\u00a0Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous near a\u00a0stream called Massabielle, in Lourdes.<\/p>\n
Mary appeared eighteen times to Bernadette who was the\u00a0only one who saw her. She was told by Mary that she\u00a0wanted a church built there and for her to drink from the\u00a0spring. On the sixteenth visit after persistent requests from\u00a0Bernadette to reveal her identity, she uttered the words \u201cI\u00a0am the Immaculate Conception\u201d.\u00a0She also said to Bernadette, \u201cI want people to come in procession, to pray for sinners, to do penance, and to drink and wash in the waters of\u00a0the spring\u201d. Never anywhere did Our Lady say that people\u00a0would be healed and yet people have been miraculously\u00a0healed. This demonstrates when pilgrims come to Lourdes\u00a0in a spirit of penance and prayer for sinners, then grace\u00a0abounds and miracles can and do happen.<\/p>\n
