How we speak and write, internally and externally, shapes the culture of the parish and the way others engage with us.<\/p>\n<p>This policy supports calm, clear, and charitable communication that reflects our church&#8217;s ethos: \u201cbeing formed in the likeness of Christ, we strive to become a truly Christ-like community through humble witness, love, compassion and communion\u201d. By holding ourselves to a professional standard, we set the tone for respectful dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Core values<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our communications should be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Respectful<\/strong>\u2013 and kind<\/li>\n<li><strong>Professional<\/strong>\u2013 focused on issues, not individuals<\/li>\n<li><strong>Clear and proportionate<\/strong>\u2013 saying what is needed, no more<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consistent<\/strong>\u2013 across emails, letters, notices, and verbal exchanges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Language<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When communicating on behalf of the parish or between team members:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please strive to use:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neutral, factual language<\/li>\n<li>Behaviour-focused wording (\u201cher\/his approach is not appropriate\u201d rather than \u201cshe\u2019s\/he\u2019s a XYZ\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Calm, measured tone, especially in disagreement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please avoid:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personal insults or derogatory remarks.<\/li>\n<li>Language that could be considered racist, xenophobic, ableist, ageist, sexist.<\/li>\n<li>Dismissive, mocking, or hostile phrasing.<\/li>\n<li>Language that labels people rather than addressing behaviour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(<em>This is in accordance with the Archdiocese Staff Handbook Section 22 Bullying and Harassment; Section 28.1.8 Use of Computers; Section 28.2 Email conduct; Section 29.2 General Conduct at Work.<\/em>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For clergy, parish office, and those acting on behalf of the parish Purpose Our parish communicates daily with diverse people.
